Has anyone ordered a Garmin from Amazon? I have my eyes on the 255 which is just KD30 and thinking of ordering it. I already downloaded the Middle East NT map from piratebay but wanted to know if anyone's ordered a garmin from Amazon.

If you install the middle east map do you get points of interests?

for the points of interest, you add those manually through a plugin for Garmin, I have those, I can supply you with the file if you end up getting one.

Why don't you check out the local dealer for the price? You'll be throwing away the warranty if you get it from Amazon.

oh no, it's just one file that you load to your device using the Garmin POI loader. The POI file I have is for cameras and radars, not sure if that's what you're really looking for.

I've ordered a Garmin from Amazon before, no problems at all.
Points of interest are already on the map that you downloaded.

Mark, since its 30 KD were talking about why not buy tom tom's iphone gps app? I can personally say that it responds as fast as garmin GPS devices (tested it out myself). You also have turn by turn navigation, its pre-confgured full of POI (points of interest) such as gas stations, colleges, malls etc. The map supports the entire middle-east. Its 99.99 USD on the app store.

i got the Garmin 255. It cost 5.5KD shipping from the states with Aramex and no customs. Installing the middle east 2010 maps which i got from the pirate bay took around 5-10 minutes. Very easy to install and crack.

10 days in customs but its hear now. Just copied the radar POI's onto the garmin and wow, this thing is like a radar detector now warning me ahead of time if there is a radar. I think it actually only warns me if i am going faster than the speed limit which makes it even cooler!

What garmin are you talking about my Nuvi660 just went out and I am getting another.
Are you saying the camera file notifies you of the trigger point? How does it notify you?

ok I've copied 'kuwait-safety-camera.gpi' into the POI folder on my Garmin. Now when I'm driving in normal map mode do I have to select this POI from the menu or will it notify me automatically when I approach a camera?

The location of the camera will appear on the map as a round icon and it will notify you only when you are driving close to the speed limit (as per internal calculation using your speed and distance from the cam).....

It should display the nearest fast food joint (e.g. McDo, KFC etc) before it goes beyond Kuwait...check the built-in POIs

You have to wait for the unit to fix on some satellites before doing a search so that it would give you the nearest POIs.
