Lady Fayrous, and Lebanese music in general, notwithstanding...
I, personally, find Arabic music to be bad/ a turn-off. Here is why, imo:
1- They are all sad songs. The sadder the better, it seems. Why? Are we such bad people that we don't deserve some happiness. Or is it a reflection of our current reality.
2- Too much emphasis on "words" and those words are usually sad. If one is interested in poetry then he/she is better off reading a poetry book, don't you think. Also, songs are about music first and foremost, not "words".
3- Stagnation. Very slow, if any, development of the music. They all sound the same today as they did many decades ago.
Maybe religion has something to do with it. Just yesterday, one of the bearded local MPs wanted to ban music in schools, because he thinks it's Haram. With all due respect, please allow me to use that 3-letter thing that I hate to use...WTF!!!
Let's hear what you think.

Arabic music, or Arabic pop music to be exact, can take a long walk off a short pier for all I care.
Arabic music for dummies, wanna be an arabian singing sensation? Here's what you need: 1- 2 Tbsp tabla track 2- 2 Ounce accordion 8th note major scale/harmonic minor melody 3- 2 D-silicone implants (for you of the not so fair sex, substitute with 2 buckets of hair gel) 4- Lips 5- Studio exec 6- Insert "7abibi, 7abibti, 3omri, 7ayati, gharami, 3yooni, albi, layl, nahaar, shams, a7la, agmal, ya salaam, ya hala" as input into a random sentence generator, seperate each sentence into 4 blocks, print out results,
Instructions: 1- Mix 2- ... 3- Profit

I have to say the arabic music industry today is crap. I'm willing to respect a lot of the older stuff but i just can't get into any of it.

And also what Ozy said i respect old singers like 3abd Al 7aleem or Fyrouz but i just never got into them. Now Arabic death metal, that's something different. Al-Nomrood from Saudi Arabia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TNEjKdlqMkAnd NarJahanam from Bahrain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y38LSKON ... re=relatedI love how they mix some Arabic 6abl (drums) into the songs hehe. Awesome stuff. Their same as some Israeli metal bands.

All respect to Arabic music but right now the Arabic Music is just about video clips, dancing, boobs & Models. if you tried to watch one of these crappy channels like Melody Hits or Mazzika, You will recognize that there is a new singer everyday with a new clip with some shitty lyrics and only one rhythm. it became a business industry. only few singers are doing well

I know people will not take this too seriously, but in my mind...
3wad Al-do'7y is one of the greats.
Give him a chance. Worth exploring, if you ask me.

Btw, can you please write his name in Arabic here.
I'm asking because I can't write Arabic in this PC, so would like to copy & paste his name in Google. Can you do that, please.
Thanks in advance.

I take the above back. This is not only 3awad's best work, but imo, one of the best Arabic work (excluding Lady Fayrouz's). عوض دوخي - صوت السهارى Here, if interested.
